Surfing in Pichilemu, Chile
Word Class Chillean Surf
Embracing our journey in our 4x4, we head to the coast of the 6th region. Our first stop is a surf spot of difficult access. Here we will pitch our tents enabling base camp to be our connection to the world- class left-break of Chile´s coast.
Our camp site will be our meeting point. Here we will have the right camping equipment to be cosy and food supply to gain energy.
We will travel daily to and from our campsite to several secret spots of the area. The water conditions and weather reports will indicate where and when we will be able to surf.
On the 4th day we will depart from the campsite towards the city of Pichilemu, considered the surf capital of Chile and recognized for its incredible waves throughout the whole year. Here we will get to meet the local crowd getting to know their culture and life style. This will help us gather knowledge and feeling to be able to ride one of the best breaks in the world.
We will spend the last two nights in a local hostel where we will enjoy munchies and a final BBQ for the moment of saying goodbye.

Location Description:
The first part of the surf trip takes place in the 6th region and its outskirts (no names mentioned to avoid the crowd). These are well known for their all-year-round quality and not so known thanks to its difficult access (strictly 4x4). An amazing natural habitat is the scenery for these incredible left breaks and its combination of rock and sand reef. The geographical feature makes this place wave active throughout the year and at its best between the months of September through March. The waves can reach an astonishing traveling distance of up to 600 mts. This place invites all intermediate and advanced riders on good days. On softer days it's a perfect place for those that are beginning as well. The average water temperature is of approx. 15 degrees therefore we recommend a 4.3 wetsuit and boots.
In Pichilemu there are 3 main waves:
“La Puntilla†is a left break wave located in the center sector with easy access. It has an average size of 2 mts and reaches a traveling distance of up to 500 mts. It breaks over sand reef and it surfable throughout the whole year.
“Infiernillo†is also a left break located on the south end. The waves have an average size of 2 mts and reach a distance of approx 300 mts. The reef is a mix of sand and rocks.
“Punta de lobos†is located 6 km south of Pichilemu. The waves are known for their exceptional quality and constant movement throughout the whole year. It's a left break wave that has an average size of 2 mts and sometimes reaching a glorious size of 6 mts. They have a traveling distance of approx. 500 to 1000 mts with a combined reef of sand and rocks. We recommend the use of larger boards than normal.
