Ollies Point and Witch's Rock Surf or Boat Trip
Imagine waking up and being the first in the water at Witch's Rock or Ollie's Point for an uncrowded 2-3 hour dawn patrol session before the panga fleet arrives to deposit 20 or 30 other surfers in the lineup. After a couple of hours of crowd-free surf, enjoy an ice-cold Imperial with a delicious meal while you contemplate your next session from the comfort of your charter boat, deciding whether to join in the fray or just relax until the pangas motor back to shore around 3:00, leaving you and your friends to have the waves to yourselves once again until nightfall!
For Witches and Ollie's, as well as other S-SW swell magnets like Playa Grande and Playa Negra, the best months historically are March, April, May, June, July, August, and November.
December, January and February often have a lack of swell consistency from the Southern Hemisphere, however they could be ideal for beginners and longboarders (at least worth an effort if you're not expecting overhead barrels). Witches and Ollies face south and don't actually work on NW swells even though some breaks around Tamarindo and further down the Nicoya peninsula do (a bit confusing- a lot of surfers go there in the wrong season and get skunked).
Itinerary / Highlights
The boat:-The Aquadesiac, formerly the Giuseppina, is run by skipper & surfer John Clarke and his wife Beth. John is a retired engineer and contractor who now pursues his 2 passions: boating and surfing. Beth is now happy to be focusing her years of administrative skills on the surf charter business.
The Aquadesiac is a beautiful replica of a classic Grand Banks Trawler that was custom built by Fibroplastico SA in San Jose, Costa Rica in 1996. This 48-foot motor yacht is powered by two, 135 horsepower Cummins turbo diesel engines which give it a cruising speed of 10 to 12 knots.
She is equipped with 3 staterooms (sleeps 6), 2 bathrooms outfitted with showers, a full kitchen, 2 barbeques, salon, lower and upper pilothouses. Relax inside or on the fully cushioned bow deck. Topside consists of a spacious sundeck complete with cushioned bench-style seats in the shade of the upper pilothouse. The Aquadesiac meets Coast Guard standards with lifejackets, fire extinguishers, first aid equipment and is approved for 22 passengers. Other safety features include sonar, GPS, radar, autopilot and an auto-navigation plotter to insure worry-free travel under any conditions.
Errant's Costa Rica Surf Charters is based out of Playa Hermosa in the northern Pacific region of Guanacaste, Costa Rica, located 20 minutes from Liberia International Airport (not to be confused with the Playa Hermosa near Jaco on the Central Coast). The Aquadesiac is available for private, all-inclusive charters to meet any needs. Full day and overnight excursions are offered for surfing, beach tours, snorkel trips, sunset tours, fishing or voyages to special destinations.
