Learn to Surf in Bundoran

Learn to surf by joining us for surf lessons in beautiful Bundoran on Donegal Bay and learn something new and exciting. Experience the great outdoors of Donegal and Sligo and get fit at the same time. But most importantly you'll have great fun and meet great people.

We conduct our surf lessons on various beaches in the local area including; Tullan Strand, Bundoran Main Beach, Rossnowlagh, Streedagh, Mullaghmore and Strandhill. We provide transport in our mini buses to and from these surf spots.

At TurfnSurf Surf School we pride ourselves on our professional approach. The instructor will be in the water with you giving sound advice and tips on improving your surfing skills. After the surf lesson join us in the Lodge for a hot tea/ coffee and a chat with your new found friends from the surf lesson. The surf lesson includes all equipment and transport so all you need to bring is a swimsuit and a towel. During the winter months we provide boots, gloves and hoods for you comfort.

Itinerary / Highlights

Our Instructors
Our surf instructors are accredited with the Irish Surfing Association (ISA) and British Surfing Association (BSA). The three principal instructors who run the Surf School are Patrick O'Donnell, Killian O'Kelly and Richard Fitzgerald who are all born and bred in Bundoran and have many years experience life guarding & surfing local and international waves. They are joined by Liam O'Condon hailing from Castleknock in Dublin.

TurfnSurf run beginner surf lessons at 10am, 2pm and 5pm every day.

We provide all the surf equipment needed. All you need is a pair of sandals, a towel and a swim suit. In general our lessons take place on Tullan Strand in Bundoran as this is the most consistent beach for surfing in the Donegal and Sligo area. However, our surf school is completely mobile so depending on the conditions we often hold our lessons on more sheltered beaches within 15 minutes of Bundoran.

The general format of the 10am lesson for example is:

- Meet at TurfnSurf Lodge in Bundoran at 09:30am where you will be greeted by your surf instructor.

- We all then proceed to the surf school changing rooms which are in the same building where you will be given a wetsuit to suit your size, as well as booties, gloves and a hood depending on the time of year.

- Changing rooms are on site so as soon as you have hopped into your wetsuits, we jump into one of our minibuses and head for the most suitable beach.

- On arriving at the beach, a 10 minute land drill takes place. This includes some safety as well as a land tutorial on how to catch waves and stand up on a wave.

- Once the land drill is done, together with the instructor, everybody enters the water where the fun begins.

- The water part of each lesson lasts approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes, during which your instructor will aim to initially get you standing on your surfboard and then gradually improve all aspects of your surfing.

- On finishing the surf lesson, you will be brought back to the lodge where you can have a hot shower, a cup of coffee and muffins/biscuits.

- You will be ready to leave the lodge by 12:45pm

- For groups of 8 or more, we will have a waterproof video camera in the water with us, so that when we get back to the lodge we can sit down for some entertainment.

- The most important element of any surf lesson with TurfnSurf is safety. The role of the instructor is to ensure that all participants are safe at all stages during the lessons. In case of emergencies the instructors do have first aid kits. We ask all our customers to please pay close attention to all safety instructions during their time at the school.
