Despite the disruptive recent history, El Salvador has put itself on the map as a truly legendary surfing destination. La Libertad is home to some of the most beautiful beaches on the continent, complete with perfect waves. El Sunzal in particular is known for its consistent breaks: ideal for both beginners and experts.
The beaches west of La Libertad are known as the ‘West Coast’, and you can find all sorts of surfing diversity if you are willing to a little travel between them.
The locals tend to be very knowledgeable about surfing, and people will be happy to help if you need some guidance. There are a plethora of shops and schools so finding lessons for a novice won’t be a problem.
