   Itinerary & Highlights

  Day 1
We pick you up at Durban international airport and transport you down the coast to the small coastal town of Scottburgh. It’s about a 30 minute drive; relax while your guide explains a bit about your location. Once there you can check into your accommodation and settle in. Once you start to get into the coastal way of things, take a stroll down to the beach to watch the sun set and take in the African vibe. Once the sun has set gather back at camp for a welcome dinner in the way of a traditional SA braai (barbeque).

Accommodation:
You will be accommodated at Vulamanzi surf camp. This rustic accommodation, situated a stones throw from the infamous Happies Point is all a surfer could need. Sleep in elevated wooden bungalows, with a look-out tower on your doorstep for the early morning surf check.

Day 2
Early surfer catches the wave! Wake up at dawn and check the conditions from the look-out tower, the waves in front of the camp are world class and highly praised by the SA surfing fraternity. If they are not satisfactory on this day, hop into the mini-van and the search begins. Return mid-morning for breakfast back at camp and laze about the place until the urge to hit the water strikes. Surf the day away; there is no limit on the amount of time you can spend in the water. Once you have had enough we will return to the surf camp for supper and a well earned sleep!

Accommodation: Vulamanzi

Day 3
Once again it’s all up to you; wake early or mid-morning, the choice is yours. The tour vehicle is at your disposal, and with our local knowledge of some legendary breaks in the area you’ll score every time. If you wish to search high and low, we will pack refreshments and food so there is no requirement to return to camp and you can surf all day if you wish! Tonight we’ll hit the town and give you a chance to experience some of the nightlife, you will eat supper at a local restaurant (own account) and drink with some locals.

Accommodation: Vulamanzi

Day 4
Start today pretty much the same as the previous two. If conditions are good search for the best place to surf and hopefully score some memorable waves. If on any of the days the surf is not up to scratch we have a wide range of optional activities to choose from that will carry a small extra cost. They range from bridge swinging and abseiling to quad-biking and rafting! Supper tonight will be something special, fresh sea food cooked on coal under the African stars, an experience you’ll never forget.

Accommodation: Vulamanzi

Day 5
Wake early and check the conditions for surfing, if they are good, surf until breakfast. In the afternoon go to Gateway Shopping Centre to ride the D-Rex or flow rider. The D-Rex is a structure made of fibre-glass and foam in the shape of a 6 foot wave. Water is then run over it at huge speeds using water jets, the water flows up the structure and loops over forming a make shift wave. Unlike a wave however you stand in one place but the water moving under your feet gives you a real feeling of riding a wave. The flow rider in Gateway is the only free-standing wave in the world that breaks both left and right. After that exhilarating experience you will then get the chance do some shopping and experience some of Durban’s exciting night life.

Accommodation: Vulamanzi

Day 6
This will be your last morning on the south coast, so hopefully squeeze in your last surf if the waves allow it. After breakfast we make our way north to an area called Zululand. This area is so called because of the African natives the Zulus ruled these lands for centuries, today it comprises of the same natural bush, rolling hills and un-spoilt beaches of those times. You’ll stop off at a town called St Lucia to have a look at the estuary here and the beach that is under government protection, hippos and crocs rule these waters……… Lastly head to your accommodation situated outside the Hluluwe game reserve, where you will be entertained around the camp fire as you discuss the adventures of the past few days.

Accommodation:
Your accommodation is at Isinkwe lodge, a quaint little lodge set amongst large trees and natural bush. Isinkwe is the Zulu word for ‘Bushbaby’, small arboreal creatures that look like fuzzy little monkeys. If you are lucky you might catch a glimpse of these agile little animals.

Day 7
No trip to Africa is complete until you have sampled the natural wonders of our Game Reserves, today is your chance! We enter the Hluhluwe Game reserve at dawn to make the most of the time when the big cats such as lion and leopards are still mobile in the cool of the morning. We continue the drive looking for the rest of the BIG 5: elephant, buffalo and rhino, while your guide points out and discusses all the smaller animals as well. Spend the heat of the day on the banks of the Umfolozi River, relaxing and enjoying a picnic lunch. You then make your way back through the park and back to the lodge to enjoy your final evening in Africa.

Accommodation: Isinkwe Lodge.

Day 8
Have breakfast at the Lodge and then leave for Durban International airport for your return flight home.
