Surf Lodge And Surf School in Dominican Republic

Surfing in Puerto Plata (Dominican Republic) with Errant Surf Holidays

With over 300 days of tropical sunshine and surf every year, surfing in Dominican Republic is a must for any surfer. Thanks to the islands large coastline (1,000 miles) and its position within the Caribbean chain, the Dominican Republic picks up great surf on its north and surf coasts.

The safe, clear and very warm waters make this surfing destination a very popular one with people learning to surf, or for people looking at spending a lot of time in the water to improve. The best time of the year is from September to April, although it is possible to surf during the summer months.

Kite surfing, diving, windsurfing and horse riding are also very popular on this island. Dominican Republic is also very rich in history and wildlife, with over 20% of the island set aside as protected land.

The Dominican Republic is a fine, colourful blend of the past, with elements of French, Spanish, Haitian and African influences woven by a rich and very interesting history. Because of its past Dominican Republic is a sensual feast of dazzling landscapes, exotic cuisine, and a remarkable variety or arts and entertainment options.

   Itinerary & Highlights

Surfing in Dominican Republic is a tropical surf playground. The waves and surf breaks are suitable for new surfers, people looking to improve and even some spots for the hard core surfer looking at getting some decent wedges and hollow waves.

Our surf school package is aimed at the new, or improving surfer. With top coaching and quality equipment, a trip to Dominican Republic is a great way to spend much time in the warm, bath like water and get better. The surfing lessons take place at Playa Encuentro a short walk from the surf lodges. This sandy bay is ideal, with easy mellow breakers.

For the more advanced surfer, we recommend taking the accommodation only option, hiring a car and heading out each day with advice from our team in search of fast, good waves all around the island.

The breaks on the north shore include Encuentro, Yucca Beach, Yellow Reef Rock, El Canal and La Boca all sit on the north shore of the Dominican Republic. It is also possible to surf on the south shore of Dominican Republic, with many breaks located around San Pedro and Barahana.

   Accommodation & Centre Details

This is a great place to base yourself while in Dominican Republic. A very relaxed atmosphere, the lodges have been built with little impact on the wildlife around it. As such it is possible to lay in a hammock and listen not only to the sound of the surf, but also dozens of different tropical birds.

On site you will find two amazing restaurants cooking up all kinds of fresh, post-surf food. There is also a big spa which recently opened, where you can book in for a sports massage, steam bath and many other styles of pampering that you truly deserve!

There is also free wifi internet, a large library and yoga lessons, kite surf lessons all on offer to anyone with any energy left after a hard day surfing!
